Our Mission
In today's world, political discourse is broken. Rather than advance social and political thought through discussion, debaters instead attack each other with the sole purpose of winning. Political discussion should not be about winning, but about creating, discussing, and learning together. Our goal is to create a respectful environment where students can freely discuss politics, current events, and more, without the pressure of winning.
We believe there is a need for a better system. One that doesn't give out trophies to whoever was more convincing, (as current debate clubs do), and one where questions can be asked in real-time. We are here to provide a platform for thoughtful discussion, evidence based debate, and critical listening.
The CDA is partnering with schools across New York to create a discussion based society whose purpose is to come to an agreement, and to hear other people's perspectives; not to destroy them, and not to beat them.
OUR Community
First and foremost, civil discourse is about people. The Civil Discourse Affiliation is an organization of individuals across numerous different schools, ethnicities, political affiliations, and backgrounds. We are united by our love of conversation.
